My Race Days
Getting on the winners ladder is proving difficult enough at the minute, but we are definitely getting a bit closer. A mare, owned by Alvin Trowbridge who I ride for and that I mentioned a few weeks ago, ran a...
Racing is really hotting up at the minute with the big Open meeting at Cheltenham coming up this weekend. If I don't pick up any rides there I'll be hoping to make hay elsewhere. This week so far, I've been...
Racing is finally picking up for me now, with more meetings and slower ground. I've been making as many trips to Ireland as I can when commitments allow and I have to say my agent over there, Rory Tierney, is...
The jumps season is about to hit full flow and I can't wait to get going, particularly after a quiet-ish summer on the riding front. I didn't have too much to ride, so as ever, I was looking for opportunities...
America, lets just say it was some experience. The people I met were so helpful and would do anything for you - most of all my boss Jack Fisher. He organised everything for me. He flew me over, gave...
It was all last minute but I got out here despite forgetting to bring some of my gear and my girlfriend. I arrived at my new home for the month late on the evening of 31st July. Thursday 1st August...
July has sadly been a quiet month’s worth of racing for me. I've had a few rides, which have all ran better than their odds, including a few being placed at 33/1, but it’s all about winners. Therefore, I'm not...
An Irishman true and true I am. Some of the lads take the piss sometimes saying that I'm an Englishman, as I've been here nearly half my life. Even a couple of weeks ago, I stayed in Ireland at Mikey...
While racing has quietened down a lot for me in England things have been reasonably busy for me with rides in Ireland. I'm finding myself going back and forth at least once a week. It costs me money each time...
I recently sorted out a new agent to book my rides in Ireland for the summer as things are quieter for me here in England. Frosty Kelly had been doing it for me for the last year, but he hadn...
I’m sure my dress sense is pretty bad, and on occasions I’ve had people laugh at me but I’ve never committed a Crime of Fashion. A typical crime of fashion is demonstrated below: Tommy Carberry says I’d play...
The season draws to a close on Saturday. I’ve had nine winners and I am desperate to get to ten, but time is running out. It looks as though I’ll have two more rides before we bow out. I travel...
It’s been two months, three days and sixteen and a half hours since Da Enemy moved in, but who’s counting. She is enjoying herself since she moved over, and you couldn't blame her. She gets to live with four lads...
It's Cheltenham Preview season with the highlight of the year The Cheltenham Festival only days away now. I'm just doing the one preview this year at The Claddagh Ring on Thursday 7thMarch. It's an Irish pub in London and...
Life is great for me at the minute, mainly because I’m flat out and things are going well. I love being busy, and I can’t sit still for two minutes. I’m riding out every day, cleaning cars on the days...
Hay, I'm David or Dave Crosse and I'm a professional Jumps jockey originally from near Cashel, Co Tipperary. I am now based and have been for the last 14 years in Lambourn in Berkshire - the home of Jumps racing.
Racing has been going well for me this season and I hope to make a big impact this winter when the proper jumps racing starts. I've been through the mill with injuries down the years but nothing that has ever stopped me getting back in the saddle. I've probably broken bones in places people didn't even realise they had bones.
I'm going to take you through what I get up too on and off the track, and try give you an insight of a jockey's life and the craic we have 24/7.
Being a Jumps jockey is a dangerous game but to me its the best game in the world. I look forward to sharing the craic we have in the weighting room with the Lovetheraces and Attheraces readers. It a side of the sport that very few people see so its going to be pretty special.
So here we go...
