Rooney Scores a Hat-trick!
Published 20/04/2012
Having recently entered the horseracing game with the purchase of two racehorses, Switcharooney and Tomway, Wayne Rooney has now added a third horse to his stable.
Obviously bitten by the racing bug, Rooney made the additional purchase from the recent Goffs Kempton Breeze-up sales, which took place on 3rd April.
Under the ownership name ‘Mr and Mrs W Rooney’, Rooney’s purchase was a two-year-old bay (brown in colouring, with a black mane and tail) named “Pippy”, who was purchased for £63,600 – the most expensive of all of Rooney’s racehorse purchases.
Pippy was one of seven two year-olds bought at the breeze-up sales by the Manor House Team, the breeding and training operation shared between footballer Michael Owen, racehorse trainer Tom Dascombe and entrepreneur Andrew Black. Six of the seven new purchases already have new owners.
The Rooneys have already registered their own set of pink and white racing silks which will be worn by the jockey on each occasion any of their horses run.
Rod Street, Chief Executive of Racing for Change, said: “The fact that Wayne has only just branched into racehorse ownership and already has three horses to his name shows just how easy it is to catch the racing bug. We’ll be looking forward to seeing his horses when they take to the track!”
