Hayley Turner picks up Sportswoman Gong at the Glamour Awards
Hayley Turner has made further waves in the world outside of horse racing by picking up the Sporting Achievement accolade at the prestigious Glamour Awards.
In a ceremony which was hosted by Graham Norton and saw Kylie Minogue pick up Outstanding Contribution Award, Kelly Rowland bag Best TV Personality and Florence and the Machine named Best Band, Hayley saw off fierce competition to pick up the prize presented by Andrew Flintoff. Also nominated for Sportswoman of the Year were the likes of Jessica Ennis, who broke the British heptathlon record over the weekend and scooped the award last year, and Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Rebecca Adlington.
This latest gong is another great achievement in what has been a phenomenal past 12 months for the UK’s leading female rider. After becoming the first lady jockey to win a Group 1 race in this country outright in July (and then bagging another one the following month for good measure!), she was named Most Inspirational Sportswoman at the Jaguar Academy of Sport Awards in November.
Hayley will make further headlines this weekend when she becomes only the second ever female jockey to ride in the Epsom Derby, the World’s most famous Flat race. Can the Glamour Sportswoman of the Year rewrite history further by passing the winning post first on Cavaleiro?
