Big Buck's Named Jumps Horse of the Year

Big Buck’s made sporting history at Aintree two weeks ago when winning his seventeenth consecutive race over jumps and the brilliant nine-year-old has added to his many accolades by being voted Jump Racing’s Horse of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Owned by the Stewart Family and trained by Paul Nicholls, who has just been named Champion Trainer for the seventh time, Big Buck’s has enjoyed another magical season which saw him land a record fourth consecutive Ladbrokes World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Around 4000 votes were cast by the public across both the Racing Post and Sandown Park websites and in a tussle which came right down to the wire, Big Buck’s just edged it ahead of the four other nominees. Big Buck’s along with Finian’s Rainbow, Kauto Star, Sprinter Sacre and Synchronised were all shortlisted by representatives from Britain and Ireland, including the Head of Handicapping from both the British Horseracing Authority and the Irish Turf Club.

Kauto Star might have just missed out to his stable-companion for the Jumps Horse of the Year Award, but he is the worthy recipient of the People’s Jumps Season Award. Voters deemed his success in the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November to have been the most memorable moment of the 2011/12 season.
