Hexham Head Turners

Racegoers came out in all their finery at Hexham recently for the Northumberland track’s Ladies Day. Several awards were up for grabs but the showpiece prizes were given for the Best Dressed Lady and the always controversial accolade of Best Looking Jockey.

The Best Dressed Lady competition was judged by Tyne Tees Model agency who had the very difficult task of selecting a winner from the crowds of immaculately turned out female racegoers. After much deliberation, they selected Jennie Collingwood from Frosterly, Durham who caught their eye in a vibrant purple dress. Jennie will have a future race named after her and will enjoy a VIP champagne luncheon at the racecourse’s restaurant.

Perhaps the most contentious award of the day was given to Campbell Gilles who scooped the Best Looking Jockey award following a brief ‘Beauty Parade’ around the paddock. Campbell saw off his closest rival, Tom Messenger, to win a selection of male cosmetics to help him preen his popular visage.
