Our Voice of the Races Eliza is Cheltenham's Best Dressed
Our very own Voice of the Races Eliza Cook, a PhD Palaeoclimatology student at Swansea University, was this year awarded the title of ‘Best Dressed Lady’ at the prestigious Cheltenham Festival. Mumbles resident Eliza was judged the best-dressed by former actress, Claire Sweeney, Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen and Lady Sarah Apsley at Cheltenham’s Ladies’ Day, which took place on Wednesday 16thMarch.
In addition to her role as a Voice of the Races where Eliza captures the excitement of a day's racing through blogs, videos and pictures, she also volunteers for the charity Racing Welfare, promoting their latest fundraising venture the Racing Lottery.
The Cheltenham judging panel chose Eliza’s outfit due to its practicality as well as its style; looking effortlessly glamourous while still offering warmth and comfort during a chilly day on your feet. The jacket was designed by Eliza’s partner, David Dent, as part of his PonyGurl Couture range which is made-to-measure. This particular one is in Hebridean taupe tweed with mauve overcheck and recycled vintage mink. The hat was created by Graham McCartney Millinery, who have a hat boutique at Cheltenham Races; the Boots were £10 on eBay and are vintage 80s; and the gloves are shoulder length leather from Agent Provocateur, for whom Eliza was a model for 18 months before starting her PhD in Swansea.
Eliza said of her success:
"I entered the Best Dressed Lady because I think Jumps Racing attire should be practical, but there is no reason that tweed can't also be glamorous. I didn't think that I would win it but if it draws a little attention to my blog and helps to bring a new audience to racing, then great!”
