"Market rasen is my local course and as someone who only started to go racing within the last year i have now picked up the bug and love coming here! The facilities are very good, In my opinion rasen is very intimate which makes the place so special. You are guaranteed a great view of the whole Course as there are no bad viewing spots and the atmosphere is brilliant. The staff on course could not be more helpful in caring for all needs, I would definiately recommend a visit to rasen! COME RACING!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"HAYDOCK good day out for all the family. Newton enclosure offers many kids activities throughout the Summer months such as bouncy castles, a play area and area to play football in front of the stands. The enclosure is the cheapest at Haydock although does have a roof (in case it rains!) and gives good viewing of the whole course, as the other stands do. The Tattersalls enclosure is a step closer to the winning post and as well as this offers inside seating that races can be viewed from and also access to the parade ring- a must see when going to Haydock. The entry prices across the course are very competitive and as a student I would strongly advise going in the Tatts where a 50% discount can be obtained- meaning access to high class racing for at most a tenner. The track itself rides very fair and means that there are no excuses for a horse losing. The ground tends to be on the testing side for the majority of the jumps (and even the flat) season and therefore soft-ground specialists and more specifically previous course winners tend to do well. Sadly, the number of runners in National Hunt races has depleted quite badly at Haydock in the past few years, although it "should" make finding that winner all the more easy. Overall, a good, enjoyable day out for all."

"SANDOWN: Keep an eye for the straight, 5f sprints on the racecard. It's well worth the 5 minute walk to the middle of the course in order to see the horses and jockeys so close up. "

"NEWBURY. Excellent track, good facilities, and usually some good horses on show. Check-out their great value fish & chip bar, one of the best at any track. AND coming soon, DO LOOK OUT for their Armed Forces Day (free entry to Services or British Legion personnel); this year it's Oct 23rd, many attractions on the day, you need to pre-book on their website."

"KELSO, possibly the best view of a National Hunt track in the UK is from the roof of the old stand in the members enclosure, you can see everything plus a view of the nearby Cheviot Hills, don't tell everyone as I like to keep it to myself."

"My local course is Warwick. If you have'nt been it is well worth a visit. Low numbers are usually favoured however, when the ground rides worse than good the riders tend to come over the stand side where high numbers benefit. The last bank holiday meeting I attended the bars ran out of beer after race 2 which did not please too many punters however, as I was the driver so I just did not care! To be fair, its a lovely course in a lovely city in a lovely part of the world. Enjoy! Melvyn Hopkins"

"When picking a winner previous course and distance form is a must. If not look for horses that have run well at pontefract. Favourites generally have a poor record at york and many run very badly. A very good local restaurant is the Old Siam in Micklegate for those who like Thai cuisine."

" Get the insider knowledge at York Races... - The marvelous Roman city walls of York make for historic interest however they do present a challenge to the twentieth century automobile- plan to approach the racecourse from the A64 to the South (even if it means using the outer ring road) and you'll avoid the legacy of Emperor Constantine. - Or, leave the car at home altogether; a regular shuttle bus connects the mainline station with the racecourse and only costs £3 return. - The racecourse is proud to use local produce and a drop of Yorkshire ale is a particular treat; seek out a pint of hand pulled Theakston Cask Ale served in its own bar towards the South of the stands and discover Masham’s finest. - If you need to find anything on the course (including a winner) then the racecard is an useful tool; maps, trackfacts, form guides and even a quiz for when you give up on solving those handicaps- its included in your County Stand admission and is just £2.50 elsewhere. - Having someone to blame is always useful when it comes to punting and that’s where our “Punter’s Panel” comes in; held in the Winner’s Enclosure about half an hour before the first race on every day at York. Its free to listen and they’ll help you understand the day, maybe tip you a winner and gladly offer themselves as scapegoats. - Do enjoy surfing this site however if you need all the info on York then visit our own site www.yorkracecourse.co.uk.
